What is the importance of clay whistles and Batiks? Some may say there is really no importance to it; it's just an art project, but there is a lot more to it than you think. These projects teach students creativity and demonstrates the effort and passion placed into art projects for our students in Art I, II, and III.
With clay whistles, you are creating something with your hands, but you also have to be very precise to create the whistle sound. According to Leeigh McGowan, “Making the whistle sound was a challenge but also cool.” These projects challenge students to be more creative, focused, persistent, and precise.
The students also created Batiks. Batiks are a traditional, complex wax resistant dyeing technique used to create colored patterns on fabric, mostly cotton or silk. Students say that the freedom of being able to choose their own designs is one of their favorite parts of the project, even though this project was tedious. Each of the projects have its own unique personality and the creator’s personality comes out in it as well. Thanks to our art program, our students can demonstrate their creativity and develop their artistic skills. - By Kyrie Roldan
