It’s that time, the school year is coming to an end. Graduation is approaching, and teachers are preparing for summer. For some of these teachers, it will be their last year packing up for summer vacation because they have earned their retirement. After a lovely 31 years of teaching at Banner County, Mrs. Barb Cooper is officially retiring. For many years, she has loved and cherished her students. With all of the memories at Banner County, Mrs. Cooper stated, “I don't have a favorite memory because there are so many great things about Banner County. Banner County has become like my home. I always said if there is a time when I hate walking through the door, I need to stop teaching, but there was never a time that happened, so I don't have just one memory; I have thousands.”
Mrs. Cooper has been an amazing teacher, helper, and most importantly, a person who has always been there to help students. Her love for the school and students has been most important in her career. Mrs. Cooper has taught for about 31 years at Banner County School. During her tenure, she has been known for helping with junior high high-risk students, being a speech coach for 12 years, teaching Kindergarten for a handful of years, but most notably being the 1st grade teacher for the longest stretch of time. As Mrs. Cooper was closing out her career, she shifted from teaching whole classrooms to focusing on helping students improve their reading ability by becoming the reading interventionist. Throughout her years of service, Mrs. Cooper appreciated the relationships she developed with her co workers as well. “The feeling of unified teamwork among the staff and as educators, everybody has the same goal of succeeding in the workplace,” stated Mrs. Cooper.
As Mrs. Cooper continues on with this new chapter of her life, her legacy at Banner County will continue to inspire both students and faculty alike. Her dedication and passion for teaching has left an impact on the hearts of many, and while she may be retiring from her role as an educator, her influence will continue for years to come. We wish her all the best in her retirement, filled with quality time spent with her grandkids and the joy of reflecting on the countless lives she has touched throughout her remarkable career.
Thank you, Mrs. Cooper, for your commitment to making Banner County a truly special place.
